Individual Support

Senior psychological support for complex lives, health and change

There are times when something has changed, but it is difficult to explain exactly what.

You may still be working, caring for others, making decisions and meeting expectations, while privately feeling more anxious, exhausted, overwhelmed, disconnected or less able to manage what once felt possible.

Mycore provides confidential individual psychotherapy for adults who want to understand the wider pattern, rather than focus only on a symptom.

The work is formulation-led, biopsychosocial, discreet and senior-led.  Appropriate if you are looking for thoughtful, experienced psychological work rather than a high-volume or protocol-led service.

Is Mycore the Right Fit?

An initial enquiry is simply an opportunity to briefly explain what you are looking for and consider whether the approach is likely to be suitable.

There is no expectation that you arrive knowing exactly what you need.

When Life Becomes More Complex Than It Looks

When pressures begins to overlap

People seek psychological support for many reasons.

Sometimes there has been a clear event.

Sometimes pressure has accumulated gradually and sometimes several things have changed at once.

Individual support may be particularly helpful when you are navigating:

  • trauma, grief or significant life change
  • anxiety, overwhelm or emotional exhaustion
  • burnout or sustained professional pressure
  • menopause or changing capacity
  • neurodivergence and the demands of compensating or masking
  • chronic illness, pain, fatigue or functional symptoms
  • relationship or family change
  • health-related uncertainty
  • difficulty switching off or recovering
  • a sense that you are no longer quite yourself.
  •  difficulty making sense of changes in mood, identity or confidence

You do not need to be in crisis to seek support.

Understanding you in context

The presenting problem is not always the whole picture

Mycore does not begin with the assumption that one symptom has one cause.

Psychological wellbeing can be influenced by the interaction between health, sleep, memory, relationships, work, biology, life history, responsibility and current circumstances. That means therapy may explore not only what you are feeling, but also:

What has changed?

What are you currently carrying?

What may be reducing available capacity?

What patterns may have developed to protect you?

What is keeping the difficulty going?

Where is meaningful change possible?

Understanding those relationships provides a more useful starting point for deciding what therapeutic work may help.

A Formulation-Led Approach

NSCTA™ Framework

Individual work at Mycore is increasingly informed by NSCTA™ — Neuro-Somatic Capacity–Threat–Agency, an emerging psychological formulation framework developed by Rebecca Downes.

NSCTA™ considers complex experience through three organising dimensions:

Capacity

What resources are currently available to meet the demands being placed upon you?

Threat

What is your psychological or physiological system responding to, anticipating or protecting against?

Agency

Where is there choice, influence or opportunity for meaningful change?

A central proposition within the developing framework is:

When load exceeds available capacity, flexibility can narrow, protection can activate and agency can reduce.

NSCTA™ is not a medical diagnostic system or an independently validated treatment. It is a developing formulation framework used to help organise complexity and support thoughtful clinical decision-making.

What Therapy May Involve

Thoughtful, collaborative and paced around you.

Sessions provide a private space to understand what is happening and work at a manageable pace.

Depending on your needs, therapy may include:

  • psychological formulation
  • exploring thoughts, emotions and patterns
  • trauma-informed psychotherapy
  • CBT-informed work
  • EMDR where appropriate
  • understanding stress and physiological responses
  • boundaries, pacing and recovery
  • communication and relationships
  • rebuilding confidence and agency.

There is no expectation that you disclose everything immediately. The work is shaped around you, not a predetermined programme.

Depth Without Losing Practicality

Psychological therapy can involve considerable reflection, but it should also remain connected to everyday life.

The work may therefore include practical attention to:

sleep and recovery
workload and boundaries
emotional regulation
relationships and communication
health and changing capacity
decision-making
what can realistically change now.

The aim is not simply to help you tolerate more.

It is to understand what has been happening, increase flexibility where possible and support a greater sense of choice in how you move forward.

Areas of Particular Experience

Mycore’s work is especially informed by experience in:

Rather than the long list currently on the website, I would reduce this to six broader areas:

Trauma, Grief & Life Transition

Including trauma exposure, bereavement, cumulative loss and significant change.

High-Functioning Distress & Burnout

When outward capability is being maintained at increasing psychological or physiological cost.

Menopause & Changing Capacity

Psychological support that considers hormonal transition alongside sleep, cognition, health, work and wider life demands.

Neurodivergence

Neurodiversity-aware psychological work around attention, executive demands, identity, sensory load and the cost of compensating.

Complex Health, Pain & Fatigue

Psychological support where chronic illness, FND, fibromyalgia, pain, fatigue or health uncertainty interact with emotional wellbeing, alongside appropriate medical care.

Work, Responsibility & Professional Pressure

For people carrying sustained responsibility, leadership demands, difficult decisions or work-related psychological load.

When Complexity Needs a More Considered Response

Who Mycore often works with

Many people who come to Mycore are outwardly functioning well. They may be professionals, leaders, carers, parents or people accustomed to being the one others rely upon.

From the outside, life may still appear largely intact.  Internally, however, maintaining that level of functioning may be taking considerably more effort.

Mycore may be particularly suited to people who value:

  • experienced psychological support
  • discretion and continuity
  • thoughtful formulation rather than a generic programme
  • psychological depth without unnecessary pathologising
  • consideration of both mental and physical health
  • a collaborative and appropriately paced therapeutic relationship.

Two different starting points

Individual Support

Appropriate when you already know that you would like ongoing psychotherapy and want space to work through difficulty over time.

Specialist Psychological Formulation

Appropriate when the picture feels particularly complex and you want a structured consultation to understand what may be contributing before deciding whether therapy — or something else — should come next.
